" the time separating us from 1 July is one of prayer. It is a moment when we implore from Heaven a special grace and, from the Holy See, understanding. I pray for you in particular to the Holy Ghost and—do not take this as a provocation—His Most Holy Spouse, the Mediatrix of all Graces."

LOVE IT !!!

Don't be defensive about using this great title Mediatrix of all Graces.

I use this and Coredemptrix even more because of these sickos who are trying to insure their damnation.

I made sign COREDEMPTRIX AND MEDIATRIX OF ALL GRACES to hold outside Vatican. Churches

Why would you say they’re going to hell?

1. You must be the Judge and Final Adjudicator

2. There is no hell according to the latest popes. It’s empty

3. All religions lead to God. One needn’t be Catholic

5. Abortionists don’t even go to hell for all the above reasons PLUS Italy’s top abortionist appeared on the papal porch with Francis while he gave a papal blessing.

6. All Novus types say “Let your conscience be the guide.” Who needs all those silly sin rules!

7. Maybe the “pope” will do a communal penance service and forgive the entire world

The headline should read more appropriately SSPX defends Episcopal ordinations. Not as headline grabbing but much more accurate and charitable. If you read the letter it does not sound like it is challenging or defies the Holy See but asking respectfully to understand its decision.

Kevin Collins's avatar

This letter showed the SSPX is at the heart of the church and the leadership in Rome is not.

Now let’s define what the Catholic Church really is.

In ascending order it is the physical buildings which includes the legal

and corporate structures that deals with the outside world.

Then there are the bishops and cardinals who are concerned with real estate property management and fundraising.

These same men are supposed to handing down the faith with fidelity. Do we see much of that?

Then there are these same structures and systems in the Vatican. Important stuff to be sure and diplomacy is added at this level. High stakes stuff. Here the Church ought to be speaking out to powerful secular governments on behalf of the faith. Included in this is supposed to be a defense of the faith, the faithful and in fact all persecuted Christians.

Do we see much of this anymore?

But does any of this truly constitute the “Church”? The church that is comprised of a community of Christian Catholics, also known as the Church Militant in need of good shepherds who are concerned about the salvation of souls.

Do we hear much of this anymore from Rome, from various conferences of bishops, or even at the diocese level?

There are some good shepherds to be sure. But how many of these good shepherds do we see sidelined, suppressed or even excommunicated for doing their jobs?

In the SSPX we see this and the contrast is clear.

If when we speak of the church if what we are talking about does not teach the gospel, with fidelity, if it does not uphold the traditions of the church fathers, disciples and apostles, if it is not first and foremost concerned about the salvation of souls then what we are talking about IS NOT and CANNOT be Catholic.

As Augustine of Hippo once said when addressing church corruption in his time:

“They may occupy the chairs of the Church, but they do not possess the Church.”

The offices they hold does not make them holy.

Occupying a seat doesn’t mean they posses the truth.

The Church belongs to Christ, not to corrupt or unworthy ministers.

So who is demonstrating fidelity to the Catholic Church, the true church? The answer is clear. It is the SSPX

John Raymond's avatar

If SSPX Choses to recognize apostates as Popes, they have a duty to submit to their teachings which includes heresy.

Jason Mead's avatar

Agreed

They (SSPX) continue to address Rome as THE Catholic Authority humbly seeking its permission to continue to act as Catholics.

John Raymond's avatar

All parts of these are nonsensical and obscene. I couldn't understand what was going on from Rome thru my parish/school from 14 on (1974). Rosary and Scapular brought me to Sedevacantism.

But prior… the Sspx taught me heresies in Rome. So Sedes just had to put final touches on

Myrtsie's avatar

I think the point of the SSPX is that it is the conciliar/synodal V2 church and not the SSPX that has broken with Holy Mother Church and Catholic Tradition.

John T Turner's avatar

Hence we’re back to this. There are Canonical laws and tradition as to the requirements to ascend to the papal office.

At least 4 conciliar popes flunked the final.

The most obvious? Vatican 2 was the break with tradition and upholding tradition is any pope’s primary role.

We can point to popes who led horrible lives. Homosexuals, adulterers and such but not one ever contradicted the doctrine of faith.

Not one until the conciliar popes.

Vatican 2 was the rupture in the faith. Look at the fruits of V2.

In fact V2 happening provided Catholics with the opportunity to learn the faith and develop virtues. V2 is the crucible that defines the goats from the sheep.

John Raymond's avatar

Roncalli and montini were heretics also. Non popes

Is it even possible for a heretic(s) to declare that the SSPX, or any other organization is in schism?

Is it even possible for heretics to excommunicate a person from the Church such as Archbishop Vigano of Bishop Strickland?

Br. Jean-Marie's avatar

Good question! Quoting from St. Robert Bellarmine, "And in a letter to the clergy of Constantinople, Pope St. Celestine I says: "The authority of Our Apostolic See has determined that the bishop, cleric, or simple Christian who had been deposed or excommunicated by Nestorius or his followers, after the latter began to preach heresy shall not be considered deposed or excommunicated. For he who had defected from the faith with such preachings, cannot depose or remove anyone whatsoever.""

Thank you for your reply Br. Jean-Marie. That answers my question completely. 😊

Myrtsie's avatar

Rather, funny asking a Cardinal, who wrote pornographic literature and who denigrates Holy Mary to make protestants happy, permission to consecrate bishops.

MJD's avatar

Just because a book is about sexuality and spirituality doesn't make if pornographic... and the Cardinal and Pope Leo didn't denigrate Mary, instead they a promoting a properly ordered devotion to her. ..

And the Cardinal is not excommunicated like Lefevbre is...

John Raymond's avatar

Leo and Fernandez did denigrate the Coredemptrix and Mediatrix of all Graces.

False popes have denigrated Her from roncalli. I was never taught about Her in my Vatican II formation... This is a crime, and I bet my teachers are burning in hell for hiding Her.

Don't defend MARY HATERS

Myrtsie's avatar

When I converted to the One, True, Catholic faith, I ran into a friend who was still a member of the protestant church we had attended. He was visibly angry with me because he had heard of our conversion. Guess what was the source of his anger. Yes, I’m sure you guessed it. Mary. Holy Mary. The big protestant hang-up. And why is that. Because she is the destroyer of heresy. Holy Mary, please pray for these baptized people who are being blinded to the fact that loving you only increases one’s love for your Son. ❤️🙏🏻❤️

John Raymond's avatar

It is so wonderful to read a defense of Her. Just makes me break out into huge smile. Ty!!!!

John Raymond's avatar

Gosh, great comment.

Oh..wait…Its mine. Sorry

Myrtsie's avatar

It was disgustingly pornographic. Which is a reason why he doesn’t mind downplaying the role of the Mother of God to people who aren’t in the family. Protestants are outside the faith. How dare we as Catholics try to appease their misunderstanding of our rightly ordered devotion to our Mother. Read St Louis de Montfort and Venerable Maria of Agreda.

MJD's avatar

Might be a little uptight. Sexuality isn't disgusting.

Mary has not been downplayed... not for Catholics.. nor outsiders. She is venerated beyond all creatures, the humble handmaid of Lord was the first Christian and serves as our model of faith in our Lord and God and her prayer for us is most powerful. Bringing clarity for Catholics relative to poorly defined and hotly debated titles to clear ambiguity is a positive.... Read St John Henry Newman...

Myrtsie's avatar

😂 Psychologizing now. And you’re totally off the mark.

John Raymond's avatar

Mjd, You might go to Hell for your defense of these wicked people who openly attacked Her

James's avatar

One would wish that the Holy See could articulate with such perfect clarity and precision its rationale for adherence to the deliberate ambiguity and implementation of the mid-century council. Such an exercise by a competent office might serve to shed the scales of eyes bent on justifying an enterprise begun with good intentions more than a half-century ago, but hijacked by the nefarious. The entire exercise of the last sixty years is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

The council was a total failure.

Admit it. Stop pretending otherwise.

Fix it.

Pope Leo recently said we are one with the Anglicans. [No we aren't, and why would we want to be?]. He endorses the diminishment of Marian mysteries by Cardinal Fernandez but he can't rectify this situation with the SPPX?

We are sheep largely without shepherds in the temporal order.

Where are the men with the fortitude and faith to correct this catastrophe?

The Cupich-pontificate-by-proxy is upon us.

Myrtsie's avatar

The unresolvable V2 problem is that at its root it is meant to be unclear and imprecise and ambiguous. It’s not accidental so there is no cure except to condemn it as the coup that it was meant to be by infiltrators with love of novelty vs love of the One, True, Holy Catholic and Apostolic Faith.

James's avatar

For years I've been astonished that it was on October 13, 1962, that Cardinal Liénart of Lille boldly grabbed the microphone at the opening working session of the council and with contempt called for the jettisoning of the schema. October 13 -- the climax of the Fatima revelation.

He and his league of the rogue heterodox which included Montini [Paul VI], with the wink and the nod of John XXIII, broke the protocols to the stunned silence of cowards and the applause of the nefarious. Trust vaporized for over a half-century by moronic left-wing clerics -- indeed soft Euro-Marxists.

Myrtsie's avatar

You’ve probably read “Iota Unum” by Romano Amerio, a V2 peritus who worked on the drafting commission, who saw 3 years of work thrown away when the council rules were broken on the first day.

adrienneep's avatar

“Defies” is the key word here. The actual experience of SSPX in most locations is one of open defiance. You can talk all you want or be sympathetic to their words about tradition. That is great. But their previous actions speak louder. In my diocese they defied direct letter from Archbishop. At local parish they defied again by keeping Masses at local school gym. They get their money from International organization. That is fraught with problems.

Kay's avatar

False. They get their money from the faithful who only want to be Catholic.

Kay's avatar

Consider your source; one of many Society bashers telling half truths. Whatever, believe what you want. I'll remain Catholic.

adrienneep's avatar

Kay, you were the one who asked for info on where they get their international money from.

Salve's avatar

“Keeping masses at a local school gym…”

Yawn… 😴

That surely sounds serious enough to merit immediate excommunication. 🙄

adrienneep's avatar

Masses at gym not the problem. It was their actual and very public defiance of our Archbishop and local parish that showed their position.

Salve's avatar

The last couple of decades have shown us that many bishops, archbishops and cardinals act in extremely arbitrary ways…

So we would have to understand exactly what your bishop demanded of them.

Besides, the SSPX is NOT under your local Bishop’s jurisdiction. I’m not arguing if this is right or wrong, it’s just a fact.

It seems your archbishop tried to exercise his authority over them and (surprise, surprise) was ignored because the SSPX had its own independent structure…

My point stands, your implying that “masses at a school gym” are somehow “negative” or reprehensible is extremely silly and infantile (to put it diplomatically)…

John T Turner's avatar

Speaking the truth sometimes might appear like open defiance. Look at the open defiance spoken by Jesus towards the Jewish leaders. He had to be “excommunicated “ Killed actually.

And if any organization needs to experience”open defiance “ it’s the Synodal apparatus.

Have you looked at those statistics of Novus Ordo “Catholics”? 70% don’t believe in the Real presence. 91% think contraceptives are fine. 80% divorced and civil marriage can receive communion ( after all it’s only symbolic) 80% of clergy are homosexuals. How many pro LGBTQ+ parishes are there? Fr James Martin? Ooooh. He’s such a hero

If you can determine the health of a tree by its fruit the Synodal, Novus Ordo system would be cut down and thrown into the fire.

Everyone hates a hypocrite. The Synodal “church” is the poster child of abject hypocrisy

adrienneep's avatar

Speaking out against 2026 corruption is one thing. SSPX locally in Diocese of Portland were very hypocritical in their very public and direct defiance of our Archbishop when asked to stop their Masses here several years ago. It was a very big problem. Not only that, they kept telling local folk to not attend our diocesan Latin Mass, that it was somehow demonic but theirs was okay. That did not win over anyone.

Salve's avatar

Your archbishop cannot forbid the SSPX from celebrating masses in his diocese…

He can try, but he will most probably be ignored, since they are not under his direct authority.

To give you an even more striking example, Traditiones Custodes does NOT apply to the SSPX…

That’s the effect of being in an IRREGULAR canonical situation: The SSPX structure is quite independent

I’m not debating if this is right or wrong… it’s just the way it is.

There’s very little your archbishop can do about it.

adrienneep's avatar

Our Archbishop is a Canon lawyer. He knows what he is doing. And he has jurisdiction over all Masses, plus responsibility for their souls as well.

Salve's avatar

Clearly your Archbishop’s “much impressive” Canon law degree didn’t help him much against the SSPX… 😉

His excellency can huff and puff, but in the real world and for better or worse, the SSPX has an independent structure.

Even if your Archbishop’s ego is bothered by it, they are free to ignore him… and they did.

adrienneep's avatar

You can insult Archbishop all you want. That does not make him wrong. And you can also pretend that SSPX being an “independent” entity gives them license to disobey authority. Your hatred does not make it right.

Jason Mead's avatar

Ah, are you still waiting for “like”?

adrienneep's avatar

In the Catholic Church the local Bishop has full authority over the Masses in his jurisdiction. That is in part why any priest has to ask permission from another parish pastor to do one Mass in his area. And I know full well why the SSPX was paid to come in from a distance and do their Masses weekly. Our Archbishop Sample is one of the few good guys and sacred music/Latin Mass guy. This was requested of him by local pastor and SSPX flagrantly ignored Archbishop’s letter. Defying your local Bishop who is under the Pope you claim to serve is not a good move by SSPX. And then they warned their own not to attend the diocesan Latin Mass. A spirit of rebellion is no better than Martin Luther’s.

Salve's avatar

Adrienne, it’s one thing to respect and support our clergy, but you seem to have some sort of obsession with your Archbishop…

The SSPX situation is now being defined/decided between them and the Vatican, well above your archbishop’s pay grade.

Your dislike for, and ranting about, the SSPX because they didn’t pay attention to your bishop’s commands won’t affect their status one bit.

Teresa's avatar

The lives of the saints contain numerous examples of obedience even when superiors, bishops, and popes were wrong and the saints were right.

KK's avatar

My question to all adherents to the SSPX, is will you also break with Holy Mother Church should the Society be excommunicated?

Origen5's avatar

The society would be excommunicated, the people attending mass at a society chapel are not members of the SSPX and therefore are not excommunicated.

In 1991 six laypeople in Hawaii, were excommunicated for attending SSPX masses.

In June 1993, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, overturned the excommunication.

The Vatican's review found that the actions of the lay people did not constitute the "crime of schism". Since the necessary legal precondition (schism) was missing, the Bishop’s decree was declared null and void.

The conditions for schism are:

A baptized person must either withdraw submission to the Pope or refuse fellowship with the faithful who remain in communion with him.

It must be a deliberate act. Canon law distinguishes between disobedience (refusing a specific order) and schism (denying the Pope’s divine right to command).

For a penalty to be incurred, the individual must have "full knowledge and freedom." Acts committed out of ignorance, lack of reason, or grave fear may not legally qualify as a punishable crime.

James Peery Cover's avatar

As I was exploring becoming Catholic, I emailed Malachi Martin. Say what you will about him, but he was first, albeit living as a layman, priest who took my salvation seriously. I will not go into how he helped me, but he did tell me that the 1988 excommunications were invalid. Thus I was not surprised that they were eventually lifted.

John T Turner's avatar

Someday Fr Martin will become St Malachi.

Paul Hughes's avatar

Do you know James that Malachi Martin was not only a priest , he was made first an "in pectore" bishop and then an "in pectore" cardinal. !! He was to be responsible for the Americas in the event of a nuclear war which was expected to destroy Rome. Other cardinals were created for the other continents.

KK's avatar

I think at this point if the SSPX is excommunicated and mo.longer in communion with Rome than neither would thier followers be. It would be no different than a Catholic attending Lutheran services in lieu of mass on Sunday.

Elizabeth V's avatar

A catholic commits mortal sin if they go to a protestant heretical church service instead of Catholic Mass

SSPX is Catholic they just don’t do the Novus ordo missae

Do you realize that this is exactly what Martin Luther said?

Kay's avatar

Are you suggesting that Our Lady was parroting Martin Luther? Be careful. It was a different context altogether. Our Lady talks about the true Faith, Martin Luther hos own brand of heresy.

Steve Fowler's avatar

How is that a problem? Pope Francis joyously accepted a statue of Martin Luther for the Vatican!

There's a problem that simply won't go away: the Vatican now esteems and praises Protestants, Orthodox, Jews, and Muslims...and from time to time Hindus, Buddhists, atheists, etc.

By the way, SSPX would be more analogous to the Orthodox than to Protestants.

Jack Hohne's avatar

Do you think just because the Pope sins then you don’t have to listen to him? Come on man you can’t be serious

Steve Fowler's avatar

You make a critical point. Ordinarily, Catholics talk about past bad Popes in terms of: nobody said they are impeccable! The point is that sexual sin, graft, etc. is JUST personal sin--having no effect upon their duties.

But, of course, the man in the office is the same man in bed as he is in audience: sin affects the performance of duties as well!

So you point out that a Pope can sin in the official performance of his duties: true!

But that's a problem. Through out history, Catholics were usually lucky to just know the name of the current Pope, and Papal Bulls were addressed to the Bishops. Now, the mass media brings to us every absurd airplane interview off-the-cuff statement.

Do we have to listen to such nonsensical ramblings? No, we have no such obligation. But what if it's in an encyclical? Well, yes, we do need to listen: but that doesn't mean that a Pope can cancel out past teachings.

Donna's avatar

You need to *consider* Encyclicals, and discern if they are in continuity with the teachings of Christ, through his Apostles, and hold true to the Full Doctrine of Faith passed down for 1900 years. Those that do not meet that necessary requirement do not hold theological significance for Catholics. So, no, if it isn’t ex cathedra, we do not have to accept false doctrine just because a Pope wrote it.

John T Turner's avatar

Yep. All those vestments, cathedrals and silly pointy hats don’t define the faith. The Conciliar “church” instituted the rupture.
