The SSPX gets the following send-off: "May the Lord enlighten your consciences and awaken your hearts. With a sorrowful yet hopeful heart, I feel it is my duty, through the authority received from Christ, to ask you to desist from your intended act."
Compare how the Holy See ends its missive to the schismatic and (possibly) heretical German Bishops: "In unity with all the bishops and in communion and obedience to the Successor of Peter, we commend ourselves to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as to the
holy patron saints of the Church in Germany. Thus we remain with fraternal greetings to you and through you to all confreres in the episcopate, to priests and religious, and to the faithful laity."
In short: MODERNISTS GET THE VELVET GLOVE; INTEGRISTS GET THE IRON FIST.
Those who oppose the SSPX consecration of bishops have two realities. One is how things ought to be and the other is how things really are. Jesus did not tell us to judge in principle. He told us to judge the fruit. Vat. 2 has not produced good fruit. Rome says to adhere to it. But Rome is a lousy judge of good fruit. There is now a line drawn in the sand. Every Catholic will stand on one side or the other.
With the tremendous number of Traditional Catholics who have taken the pilgrimage to Econe, I am reminded of the Sermon on the Mount. These people gathered to witness and hear the words of our Lord....so are the followers of the SSPX doing this week. Leo needs a new alarm clock. He needs someone in the Vatican to tell him - that train has left the station. As many of your readers have professed - Leo had plenty of time to meet with Fr. Pagliarani. Instead Leo chose to hid behind the cassock of Fernandez. As the minions of Leo march to condemn the SSPX while they sing "All are welcome" - the medley "Send in the Clowns" will be rattling around in my head.

To clarify: Archbishop Lefebvre was raised from the priesthood, the episcopacy, then to the archbishopric through the "laying on of hands" by prelates who could trace their lineage back to the Apostles. That is the validity of their ordinations. Both Bishop de Galarreta and Bishop Fellay have "valid" Sacraments... ALWAYS!
Liceity has to do with having permission.
When the four new Bishops are consecrated, their consecrations will be always "valid" but not "licit" because they don't have the papal mandate.
What is Leo XIV saying?! Licit, sometimes valid?
Canon 290: Sacred ordination once validly received never becomes invalid.
Canon 608: A validly ordained cleric who has lost the clerical state (laicization) obviously retains the power of orders (see Canon 290), but he is forbidden to exercise that power - with the sole exception foreseen by the Code in Canon 976, i.e. absolution of a penitent in danger of death.
So it comes to the Pope exercising his power to withhold his permission for the consecrations, and therefore rendering them illicit; and using his power as a bully pulpit.
This also brings us back to the SSPX defense of "necessity" caused by the "crisis" (and in this case caused by the Pope because he doesn't have to do that).
In spite of the scarcity of priests and vocations in that church, they will cut off their noses to spite their faces by excommunicating the SSPX priests who are well trained and capable to provide what the Church needs.
