“Accessible language, attention to the quality of relationships, the Church’s aim is not to its own survival.” I would say the survival of the Catholic Church should be imperative, the rest of his words can be used seamlessly to implement Francis’s objectives. I concur with Jonwood that it is a lot of meaningless words that belongs in the category of the useless Parish Misson Statement.
It is quite simple:
1) Priests need to be re-evangelized and re-catechized. This can easily be done either at a diocesan level or through a well-produced 20-30-part series of videos using dynamic lay and priest presenters.
2) A priest must be released from the albatross of "pastoral sensitivity' and be permitted to proclaim boldly all Church teachings without worrying that he will be summoned to the Chancery Office because a parish karen fussed over what he said on Sunday about abortion or euthanasia or chastity. If we lose people because we proclaim Church teaching, then so be it.
3) The Church must move from the tedious three-reading homily and be permitted to boldly proclaim the Gospel and Church teachings.
4) If I were popessa (and I do not wish to be!) I would (using great speakers and catechists) create a three-year series to evangelize and catechize all North American Catholics. I would be shown two Sundays out of four on the ubiquitous parish screen. Catholics do not know their faith. If the magisterium does not know that, then shame on them.
